Monica Kolf earned her bachelor's in Philosophy from the University of Notre Dame
and her master's in Education from the University of Pittsburgh.
She has over 10 years' experience teaching and mentoring teens, particularly teen girls.
While teaching, she became concerned about both the quantity and the quality
of the media her students were consuming each day and, in response, founded SHADES Media Literacy Project.

SHADES's mission is to guide young women to a deeper self-understanding, particularly with regard to the way
social media can change human interaction, as well as the way that sounds, images, and ideas
in entertainment media can change our perspective of the world.
